Meet The Team: Interview with Andreas Pichler

Andreas has joined craftworks in October and is supporting our team with his know-how in areas such as Machine Learning, Applied Mathematics and Scientific Computing. We are glad to have him in the team and with this in mind we wish you a pleasant reading!

How did you land at craftworks?
A friend of a friend told me about craftworks as a startup with really cool and smart people, so I had to check it out. Turned out to be true.

What does your typical day at craftworks look like?
Most of the day I sit on my PC and do data analysis and model development. Some meetings in between. For lunch we sit together and chat about fun stuff. Usually we also play 1-2 Tischkicks (table football) during the day. Tischkicks are great!!

Could you describe craftworks in 3 words?
Too cool and smart. I additionally would add pleasant.

Could you tell us more about your position at craftworks and what you enjoy the most?
I’m a Data Scientist at craftworks. As such I perform data analysis and develop models that can generate new information. I really enjoy to tackle complex problems and to find solutions how to solve them.

Apart from work, what do you do with your time off?
I like to be in the nature, hiking and climbing. Or spending time with my friends. After work I usually do some sport, to compensate sitting all day.

What advice would you give someone who’s just starting out in your field?
Practice programming a lot, follow tutorials of any kind but always add something of your own interest to challenge your problem understanding.

How do you keep developing your professional skills?
Online courses, tutorials, meetups, and I follow research of some inspiring scientists. Recently I also started listening to podcasts of AI related interviews, to find out about new research areas and how AI is applied in industry.

What behavior or personality trait do you most attribute your success to, and why?
Focus, it helps me to ignore irrelevant information when solving problems and learning new things.

3 short questions:

Mac or PC?
Mac

Office or remote?
Teamwork works better in person. But sometimes I work independently from others the whole day, then remote is also fine. So both.

Which music is playing on your player right now?

Hans Zimmer – The Dark Knight OST

Thank you Andreas!

Thank you Betül!
